John Wayne Airport’s recently launched Edible Food Donation Program streamlines the process for tenants to donate surplus food and reflects our commitment to sustainability and community by reducing food waste and helping those in need. The program is funded by CalRecycle through OC Waste & Recycling.
To participate, tenants log their contributions in a platform, which tracks donations and ensures they are promptly picked up and delivered to those in need. Airport tenants weigh their donations and package them properly before placing them in the designated refrigerators. Pick-ups are every Monday and Wednesday, and donations can be dropped off from Saturday through Tuesday every week.
The positive response has been encouraging, and we anticipate even greater participation as the program continues. Within the first three months of the launch, Bambuza (Coffee Bean Tea Leaf and Sambazon), as well as Paradies and American Airlines Admiral Club, collectively donated almost 300 pounds of food, making a significant impact in our community. This level of participation reflects the dedication of our tenants and their commitment to reducing food waste.
