John Wayne Airport Takes the Cake and Celebrates 100 Years of Flight in Orange County

Orange County’s aviation history dates back to the 1920s when aviation pioneer Eddie Martin established a private landing strip known as the Eddie Martin Airport. In 1923, Martin furthered his legacy by founding the esteemed flying school Martin Aviation.

A century later, Eddie Martin’s legacy has ascended to new heights. John Wayne Airport, an award-winning airport, stands as a resounding testament to his enduring influence.

To commemorate this centennial feat, John Wayne Airport celebrated at the Terminal with a Press Event on September 28, 2023. The event featured the unveiling of an art exhibit showcasing the rich history of aviation in Orange County. This historical display stretches along the pre-security Departure (upper) Level walkway Gallery between Terminals B and C.

The festivities culminated in a delightful surprise. An intricately crafted cake replica of the Air Traffic Control Tower was unveiled, accompanied by exquisitely decorated aviation-themed cake pops. Attendees savored the sweet taste of aviation success in Orange County, savoring both the moment and the confections.
